European multi-media artists Pinar&Viola are having their debut show in the US and their coming out with a
bang. Their show “Blue Jeans On Thin Ice” is an interactive installation that shines a light on the handgun
violence issues we face in America. They will create a dome and shooting gallery entirely out of denim and
people will not buy the art, but shoot with a rifle to win it. The prize, or artwork in this case is a custom made
denim teddy bears. They’ll have a total of 62 teddy bears symbolizing the amount of mass gun shootings
that occurred in the US since the day Pinar&Viola were born.

Pinar&Viola state:
“We find it such an imminent, important subject and we are surprised that due to the traditional narrowmindedness
of the country and the established gun companies that the country keeps on failing to take
action.”

The exhibition suggests a ground where people are free to satisfy their shooting needs, in a fantasy fun fair
format, while not harming anyone. They decided to take jeans as a metaphor and obsessively cover the
gallery because they find gun and jeans are both democratic. “One represents the American dream and the
other America’s nightmare.”

This is how we will look in a millennia xx P&V

We have always been told that we cannot bring our earthly possessions to the afterworld. Not true! The most fabulous ancient skeletons are discovered. Encrusted with precious stones dating from the Roman Catacombs of the eighteenth century, these lavishly decorated skeletons makes us want to invest in precious jewels more than ever. Found and photographed by historian Paul Koudounaris, these images will be featured in his new book, Heavenly Bodies: Cult Treasures and Spectacular Saints from the Catacombs.

Fake scene boosting hope

A struggling town bought itself new hope by painting fake scenes on its walls

A bakery, a bookmaker and a barber have recently appeared in a village in Northern Ireland. But you cannot enter any of them. In a bid to bring in tourists, the town of Bushmills, famous for the whiskey that was first distilled there 400 years ago, has painted over a dozen abandoned storefronts and houses.

There are windows and doors with people looking out, a bakery with an appetizing selection of bread and cakes, and a traditional cobbler, where a man in a flat cap can be seen mending shoes.

It’s not the first time Northern Ireland has tried this. A similar attempt to doll up villages in county Fermanagh so that visiting G8 leaders wouldn’t see how woeful the region looked drew anger and derision; “cosmetic surgery for serious wounds,” one local resident said. But in Bushmills, local residents raised their own funds to add to government money, and the project’s been a success, a local councillor told Reuters; two of the painted stores have already found new owners.

Square ‘em all

A selection of app logos which tried hard to fit it all in a square

Now, everyone who owns an iphone or any smart phone are just spoiled with all the smartness of the apps that is contained within. There is an app for almost everything, be it photo filters, music scanner, e-book, recipes, newspapers from all over the world, games, texting, video calls, fitness program and so on. However, have you noticed? The tiny little logos that fill up the walls of your mobile phones are squares with rounded corners? Can you imagine how much devotion has been put into turning all sorts of subjects, objects or activities into these little symbols? Even the fundamentally rounded basketball is transformed into a litte square. How much further can we go?

Diplo got the first Pinar&Viola tattoo

Diplo got a tattoo designed by us. A K&L on his arm, showing his devotion to his son and the woman of his life. The font we used for it is actually the one we sign our work with. This is the first time we it for something else than our own signature.
He said he moved his arm too much, that’s why the white spots occurred in the design.

A project by Addie Wagenknecht and Pablo Garcia where they asked online sexcam performers to replicate iconic works of art. This piece is an experimental homage to both fine art and the lowbrow internet phenomenon of cams.
