Ecstatic Surface Design 2011: ‘The Credit Card Collection’
Our collaboration started during our studies at the Sandberg Instituut Amsterdam, Masters of Rietveld Academie and turned into the graphic design duo Pinar&Viola. 15 September, we’ll be graduating with our first Ecstatic Surface Collection: The Credit Card Collection.
In our future practice, we, as the graphic design duo, Pinar&Viola, will be launching every year an ecstatic surface collection. As graduation project, we are presenting the first: The Credit Card Collection. The ultimate plastic spending power, the credit card, is the starring actor of the collection.
In the ecstatic surface collection, from ordinary plastic to all-black titanium, the credit card is depicted as a catastrophic authority. Credit cards, once presented to their members as the key to access uttermost fantasies and luxury, made debt become equal to wealth. The Credit Card is used here as an all-encompassing metaphor for shattered dreams, disappointment, the transforming notion of value and the mutation of the concept of ‘credit’.
