Smooth Criminal style
Following our former dictator style post, hereby we present Mobutu Sese Seko, former President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Resplendent in his leopardskin toque, symbol of his authority as a traditional tribal chief, the jovial dictator has had little difficulty charming nearly all U.S. Presidents stretching back to John Kennedy. Political friendships with a long line of leaders in China, Romania, France, North Korea, South Africa and Israel (where he trained as a paratrooper) made him a widely traveled statesman. Some were seduced by Mobutu’s eagerness to serve as a bulwark against Soviet expansion in the heart of Africa, others by Zaire’s natural treasure trove of diamonds, gold, cobalt, copper, and the uranium used in the American nuclear bombs dropped on Japan in World War II.” TIme, 1993.

Undressed ‘n Defeating
FEMEN is a Ukrainian protest group based in Kiev, founded in 2008. The organization became internationally known for organizing topless protests against sex tourists, international marriage agencies, sexism and other social, national and international ills. Some of the goals of the organization are: “To develop leadership, intellectual and moral qualities of the young women in Ukraine” and “To build up the image of Ukraine, the country with great opportunities for women”.
Female university students between 18 and 20 years old form the backbone of the movement. The goal of the organization is “to shake women in Ukraine, making them socially active; to organize in 2017 a women’s revolution.”
FEMEN justifies its provocative methods stating “This is the only way to be heard in this country. If we staged simple protests with banners, then our claims would not have been noticed”.

Asgarda amazons
Riot grrrls of the Amazon variety. Amidst the Ukraine’s high rates of sex trafficking and gender oppression, a new movement of empowered women takes form—Asgarda—a tribe of Ukrainian women, mostly students, who live together in the Carpathian Mountains seeking complete autonomy from men. Approximately 150 women live together under the leadership of 30-something Katerina Tarnousk. Reviving the tribal traditions of the Scythian Amazons of ancient Greek mythology, the Asgarda train in martial arts, taught by former Soviet karate master, Volodymyr Stepanovytch, and learn life skills and sciences in order to become ideal women. French photographer Guillaume Herbaut met the Asgarda and documented their daily life and studies.

We designed WWW.THEIMPORTANCEOFBEINGSEXY.COM for Dutch documentary maker Sunny Bergman. The steamy website is an online platform for women to share their sexual experiences. The Importance of Being Sexy questions the effect of porn in the female sensuality in the 21st century. Sunny Bergman states that, in our highly sexualized culture, the absence of real-life stories about sex is characterizing our times.
In the first glance the website looks like a XXX Volume adult site, though when clicking on the erotic banners, the visitor ends up with a collection of intimate and true stories about sexuality. These personal stories are told by webcam girls talking openly and freely about their sexual experiences.
The website contains an erotic art gallery, an erotic test, and offers the visitor the possibility to make sexual confessions.

The Importance of Being Sexy
We’re happy to invite you to the online launch of the website The Importance of Being Sexy, designed by us.
The opening will take place on October 28th and will be hosted by the Dutch public broadcast channel VPRO and Viewpoint Productions.
The Importance of Being Sexy is a website which questions the effect of porn in the female sensuality in the 21st century.
The website is a part of a series of projects initiated by the remarkable Dutch documentary maker Sunny Bergman.
The project looks into a culture that applauds women who promote their sexiness. It exposes the mechanisms leading to confuse raunchiness with femininity and sexual approval with power. The website is an online platform for women to share their sensual experiences, also an online collection of sensual webcam interviews that Bergman made with women from all over the world expressing their intimate experiences.

New Silent presents the launch of Fatima Al Qadiri’s new EP Genre-Specific Xperience. For this event Al Qadiri, a New York-based artist and musician, showcases five pieces of music that reinterpret five sub-genres of dance music: Juke, Hip hop, Dubstep, Electro-Tropicalia, and early-’90s Gregorian Trance. Born in Senegal, raised in Kuwait and now living in New York City, Fatima Al Qadiri is the producer and vocalist behind Ayshay. Fueled by her fascination with the sacred songs of Islam WARN-U is a homage and reinterpretation of the sounds that have haunted Al Qadiri since she was a child. Constructed entirely out of her own vocals, which she filtered and layered upon one another WARN-U is Al Qadiri’s attempt to reconfigure the concept of “sacred” music as inspiring divine love and divine fear. Even in her adoption of the name Ayshay, a flippant term which means “whatever” in Arabic, Fatima Al Qadiri seeks to distance the austere values inherent in worship music from her own interpretation of the latter.

Political Playboys + BYOB
Political Playboys mirrors today’s aestheticized politics, which seems to lean to entertainment. Politicians, especially the charismatic ones, tend to have a driven and vain nature which seeks power and adulation. Political sex scandals are the perfect fit in our entertainment time spirit. This led the border between the exterritorial politicians and the folk to narrow.
With the social network frenzy, juicy news spread quicker and the unavoidably entertained us with their (fatal) embarrassments.
The animation ‘Political Playboys’ uses the visual and textual language of digital folkloric web porn banners and wants to contribute to the discussion on the popularization, dramatizing, personalizing and tabloidizing of the political discourse.
Political Playboys was exhibited at the Bring Your Own Beamer show at W139 in Amsterdam. BYOB is a series of one-night-exhibitions hosting artists and their projectors, curated by Rafaël Rozendaal.

Navin Rawanchaikul
Navin Rawanchaikul (born 1971) Thai: นาวิน ลาวัลย์ชัยกุล is a Thai artist with Japanese permanent resident status whose ancestral roots are in Hindu-Punjabi communities of what is now Pakistan. He has developed a unique and vast body of works that rely heavily on team spirit and collaboration, and are most often produced under the auspices of Navin Production Co., Ltd. His artistic development began with works rooted in his local community of Chiang Mai. As he embarked on more and more international presentations of his work he started to engage in a process of exploring the negotiation between local circumstances and trends of globalization.
Following this path Navin has become internationally renowned for a dynamic oeuvre of participatory, site-specific projects that include direct community interventions, social commentary and an innovative style of integrating community or individual experiences into eccentric fictional tales. His works include is an array of installations, films, performances, comic books, games, cocktails, mobile galleries and painted cars. Navin has participated in numerous biennials and triennials and held solo exhibitions at prestigious institutions including Paris’ Palais de Tokyo, and New York’s PS1 Contemporary Art Center.

Unchartered futuristic Pakistani territories
Kenny Hassan Irwin - chances are you never heard of him, A Flickr artist sells his work on MySpace for 57 pounds per print including the frame, his titles read like news headlines from the Arab-occupied planet Qambar Shahdadkot. Operating between the confines of hard news tack and science fictional indulgence, between the Taliban insurgency in Pakistan’s North-West frontier and the prospect of cosmic travel - his is an under-rated and actively indeterminate position. The photographic work itself lies between hardedge photography and crappy Photoshop interruptions. We Got Incoming dOvelanders Over The Skies Of Gilgit! is a part of the 2011 ***dOverstar Chronicles*** series, and mirrors the entry of Chinese Army troops into the Gilgit-Baltistan Region of Pakistan. Irwin’s work marks an occupation of unchartered futuristic territories in the Islamic tradition that, according to scholar Achmed Khammas, is marked by it’s “almost complete lack of ‘futureness’”.
