Amsterdam Subway Train
Illustrations for the interior of a subway train in Amsterdam, realized within the Kunst in de Metro project. Exhibited in an subway train in Amsterdam from September 2009 - ongoing.
The drawings are inspired by commuters being connected to their social networks through multifunctional cellphones and compact laptops during the train ride. In the drawings, subtle urban elements are sighted, like WiFi-spots, laptops, ladybugs (which is the symbol against violence in Dutch society) and take-away coffee. Along with the urban elements, a digital homing pigeon pops-up in some places, spreading e-mails trough the metro train.
A dog, an American Staffordshire Terrier is a repetitive facet in the drawings. This dog, often seen on the streets as an accessory to accompany the gangster look, watches over the subway and it's commuters.
